Evoque named Auto Express car of the year

Not so long ago the thought of a Range Rover 4x4 coupe would have sounded absurd. But last night the Evoque was crowned overall winner at the Auto Express Car of the Year awards.

Held at Wodburn Safari Park, Auto Express named the best new models of the past 12 months at its prestigious annual event. Key criteria included fuel efficiency, driver appeal, practicality and reliability.
From the overall 18 class winners judges felt that the British-built Evoque was the most impressive new car of the past 12 months. Acting Editor of Auto Express Graham Hope said: “The Range Rover Evoque truly looks set to define a desirable new sector of the market on its own. This talented machine marks a brave departure from its maker’s traditional strengths. It’s great to see that this year’s winner was designed, engineered and built in Britain.”

Other winners on the night included the Hyundai i10, named Best City Car. Auto Express also handed out its first-ever Green Award to Volkswagen’s BlueMotion range, in recognition of its environmental efforts.
