The 'MINI this' & 'MINI that'.

This summer marks yet another arrival to the sprawling MINI range. Enter the Soho. Essentially the same iteration of colour and interior trims as the Clubman variant launched last year, the limited edition Hatch and Convertible models continue the trend of being named after London boroughs, like the previous Parklane and Camden editions.

The Soho will be available in both Cooper and Cooper D models from July until March 2012. Exclusive features include ‘White Silver’ metallic paint, 17" Black Star Bullet alloy wheels and a host of interior finishes to conclude the look. Prices run from £16,765 for the Cooper hatch up to £20,135 for a Cooper D Convertible.
No denying that the combination works well, but with the Upcoming Coupe and Pacemen, MINI runs the risk of loosing that ‘special’ feeling that once made the brand unique. Granted the Soho goes some way to recreate that exclusivity, but what can we expect next, ‘The Covent Garden’ or ‘Thames’ edition perhaps.

What MINI really needs is not a glorified LRX rivalling Pacemen, not even a coupe. The missing link in the MINI DNA is that in itself, something ‘MINI’. With the likely hood of the next generation hatch growing, BMW clearly understands the need to produce the Rocketman concept shown earlier this year. Let’s just hope this can go some way to recreate that magic of 2001 when the original ‘new MINI’ hit our shores.
